The ER & Vista - Monday 7/4/22

This was an eventful 4th of July.  Poor mom said she wanted to go to the ER because her knees hurt from her fall on Saturday.

Janette told me the procedure - they call for an ambulance to take her.  So she let me know when they left with her and I met them at the hospital.  I had to wait a bit, but then was brought to her room.  I told her I was going to get her warm blankets.  Her nurse, Ryan gave me 2 and said it would be a while for a doctor to see her.  I covered her and got her nice and cozy.  The tv was on a meditation channel that would have had me curled up on the floor sleeping in no time, lol, so I decided to see what else was on.  Wow, Turner classic movies - moms favorites, stopped there.  And what was on but Yankee Doodle Dandy. She said yes to it.  I worked on organizing photos of Miles while watching.  Mom slept.  The music was so uplifting, how can anyone not be in a good mood with that movie on?  It was going on 2 hours when the doctor came in.  He ordered pain med by IV and knee X-rays.  The med came quickly then, and she was taken to X-ray right after.  Within a short time she was back, and telling me to go be with John and Molly at the picnic. Every once in a while she surprises me with not only what she is able to say, but that she has understood something I’ve told her. So I said I would if she felt she would sleep while i was gone.  I told her I’d be back.  So upon leaving I ran into her doctor and he personally wrote down my phone number to call me when he had results.

I arrived to the picnic an hour and a half after I was supposed to, and John and Molly had been having a nice time.  I heated my food inside in the microwave and it was good.  Sitting outside relaxing with friends was just what the doctor ordered.

An hour and a half passed and I was surprised I hadn’t gotten a phone call.  We decided it was time for thank yous and leaving.  On my way back to the ER, my phone rang.  It was the Dr. calling to say that the X-rays were negative. She has arthritis, possibly a sprain.  He asked if I would ok with them  doing X-rays of her hips  just to be sure, and I said yes and told him I was on my way back.  When I got there she was sleeping.

After a while the doctor came in and said hip X-rays looked perfect.  So if it wasn’t the 4th, she would have been discharged with PT instructions and wheelchair, but we have to wait.  John called to say he was on his way, leaving medicated Molly with his brother Dominic. (fireworks)

It was about 7:45 when the nurses got mom in the car.  John hadn’t arrived yet so I called him and he said to meet him at olivia’s because he wanted to help me.  We ended up deciding to take both cars since he had to get back to the other end of town to get molly and I needed to grab something for mom to eat.  I’d tried the hospital cafeteria, but it was closed.  I was weighing what to get that would be quick, and also aware of her recent choking and needing the Heimlich maneuver.  I decided on McDonald’s fish filet.  We drove thru and I got her 2.  Opened the first one, and she eagerly ate.  I cautioned her to chew good and slowly.  She said it was delicious.  She was happy when I told her she had another one too.  As we pulled in I said “you’re home! thank goodness right?” She said “yes Jane Marie”.  I laughed and said “ok Celia Louise”.

When we got back to vista, John was already there getting George and a wheelchair.  George was absolutely great with mom.  Lifted her out of the car. She was still working on her first fish, so I told her hand it to me and I’d bring it in.  We got her inside and George pushed her right to a table in the dining room where she could finish eating.  I reminded her rest = healing, her body needs it.  Kissed her goodbye got home about 8:20.
