Sat 8/20/22 & Sun 8/21/22

Sat 8/20 - I took mom outside in her wheelchair and she seemed to enjoy it.  I called Aunt Honey while we walked and it was great to talk to her.  Bridget told me that she is now using her walker sometimes which is great.  Mom wanted to go lay down after, so I pushed her to her room.  She laid down, and I covered her up.  I realized she didn’t have her alert on so I went back to the nurses station and asked Denise where it would be.  She looked around, asked Shefere who gave a lackluster “I don’t know”.  Denise looked in mom’s room, no luck.  She went through the drawers at the station again, and found it covered up.

Sun 8/21 - When I got to the window and rang the bell,I looked in, and surprise surprise I see someone walking from one table to another and realize it is mom.  No walker.  Bridget let us in and shook her head and said she’s a stubborn one.  I actually was glad to see that she COULD do that.  Interesting.

John molly and I took her outside even though it was pretty hot.  John pushed her because my back has been acting up a bit.  We called Pat while on the walk, mom asked her how pumpkin was.  Pumpkin has taken over Fiona’s bed which is pretty funny, except for poor Fiona.  I’d say Fiona is being a very good sport.  Back inside, Bridget let me in moms room.  They are still keeping it locked so that she doesn’t go in without assistance.  Bridget stripped the bed, I found more sheets and mattress pad.  Bridget is the workhorse today and everyday.

What a crazy morning trying to help mom feel content in the living room.

Will update later

Tue 8/16/22

How I wish I knew what mom understands and what she doesn’t.   Today she asked me to take pictures.  I put my sunglasses on her because it was so bright. She just looks so lost 😞

She’s been mad because they are not letting her go to her room alone because she fell twice yesterday morning.  She told the nurse she didn’t care what her f*cking doctor says.  I guess that was pretty articulate!

Talked to Bob her OT.  Talked to Sean at Keene about non-tipping wheelchair device and brake extensions.  Talked to Janette about several issues.  Trying again to get a hairdresser there for her.  All of this takes so much time and red tape.

Mon 8/15/22

Today when I arrived Janette let me in. She said she was glad to see me because she was just getting ready to call me because mom had fallen twice today she’s OK but just will not remember to press her button before she gets up and transfers to her wheelchair. She was at activities which made me glad to hear and I went to her room and watered her plants, picked up her newspapers that type of thing. She received pictures of Emmett Mark from Laura so I put those up around her room.  I noticed spots on her sheets and Janette  told me they were clean - those were stains - so I decided to bring them home and try to get the stains out. So we changed the sheets on the bed.  We talked about her shoes and Dr. Carmody‘s visit - his suggestion was to make a hole in the side of her shoe where that bunion was infected. Also I need to check on the brake extensions for her wheelchair which we’ve heard nothing about. Marty her PT is coming this afternoon.

Sun 8/14/22

I wish she would smile.  She always asks me to take a picture.  So I oblige.  And then wish she didn’t look so lost.

Melanie visited her on Friday.  She brought Applebees to go -  salmon for mom.  They ate out back on the patio.  Melanie said they had a good visit although mom kept telling her she could go.  Thank you Melanie for visiting and bringing her favorite meal

Tue 8/9/22

Emmett - held it to her face as in a caress, said Emmett Mark

4 generations - put inside her book

Vera - asked who took this picture

Finally got outside after a few days of staying in because of the brutal heat.  Pointed to a car and told me it’s Bob’s.  She has said that every day that we go outside since Bob visited her.  Today though she added that she wondered what he’s doing in there (Vista).

Lots of emotions today.  After holding Emmett’s picture, she said I’m done with you.  Go.

I laughed, said ok, and left.  Outside, I cried.

Mon 8/8/22

I took this picture of mom as I read Aunt Honey’s email, Tina’s email, and Kathy’s email to her.

Today as I was leaving, Regina left too.  Her husband Larry is a resident, and I knew Regina from the late 80’s - 90’s because she worked in Chris’s school plus she lived near us when we lived on Baxter Street.

We talked quite a while in the heat.  She said she doesn’t understand why God allows her husband to go on as he does.  The question we all have.  More later.

Sat 8/6/22

Wed Aug 3

I was walking mom outside in her wheelchair when Jenny and family pulled in.  They brought her cupcakes.  They had been visiting Michael in CT so came this way in order to see mom.  Jenny said that Ray told her it was too far out of her way so not to do it, but she didn’t listen to him

Photos from Mountain View

Waiting for a room to open at St. Joseph Kervick before they pulled the rug out from under me.

Mom there from Feb 9 to March 31.  Was such a hard hard time

Last photos from 1 Perry Lane

Deleting photos and I came across these.  Finding nice people to take Uncle Jim’s German shepherds. Christmas Day with Tom. The last day John patiently listened to me while standing in the driveway remembering growing up there, playing with Karen and Janet, and Dopey always with us.  I was relieved it was ready for the closing, but sad to say goodbye to it with no one who experienced it with me.

Newly-named Butter and Field off to their new home

These next 3 photos were how I let someone know where moms key was hidden -
Tom, Kenny, Marty, Nancy

More of the almost empty house.
Some furniture left there for buyer.

The look of aloneness tells the story of how I felt
Grief and sadness
Thank you God for my Molly
